India is fast emerging as a fascinating global R&D and product development destination due to its spatial position, intellectual power and efficient and dedicated manpower. Almost all big R&D spending organizations aim to open centers in India. These companies are dedicated for vaccine development, drugs and pharmaceuticals research and manufacturing, electronic hardware and supercomputing, solar energy research and applications, nutraceuticals and herbal medicines. Industries are mandatory to meet the minimum standards specified under Trade- related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). India is a signatory to the Paris Convention for the protection of industrial property, 1883, and the Patent Cooperation Treaty, 1970. Also India had signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Thus due to this growing recognition, protection of intellectual property is the focus of government and industry to ensure protection of valuable investments in research and development (R&D). Efficient rules and regulation are put forth to strengthen the enforceability of intellectual property rights. The course provides an overview of the intellectual property and kind of right sought for it. The course also covers procedures, rules and regulation to be followed for seeking patent, copyright and trademark.

India however, lacks appropriate trained professionals to handle the growing intellectual property. India Patent Office has modernized infrastructure to clear problems of backlogs. Indian intellectual property right based industries need a good amount of professions equipped with the knowledge of procedures, rules and regulation to be followed.
